Prof. Suraj Olunifesi

Olunifesi Adekunle SURAJ is an Associate Professor of Strategic Communication, Disinformation, Digital and Media Literacy at the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, Nigeria. He is the Co-Lead of the global UNESCO MILID University Network and the Continental Coordinator of the African Chapter of the UNESCO University network.

Dr. Olunifesi is a Fellow of Deutshe Welles Akademia (DW, Germany), a member of British Academy of Management (BAM, UK), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), an affiliate member of International Panel on Information Dissemination (IPIE, Switzerland), a Board member of Media Diversity Institute (MDI, UK), Chartered Institute of Information and Strategic Management (CIISM), Institute of Management Consultants (ISM), Fellow, Institute of Security Nigeria (FISN), a Certified Patron and member of the Patron Board of AfroFutureTech International, EduGist International and African Center for Public Leadership (ACPL) and other reputable national and international associations to which he holds the position of a Fellow and serves as a board member.

Dr Suraj is the Executive Director of African Centre for Media and Intercultural Dialogue (ACMID), and Chief Executive Officer of WitsEdge Consultancy Limited. Dr Olunifesi is a leading African Scholar and Thought Leader on Media, Information and Digital Literacy.

He is presently a member of United Nations Global Expert Group on addressing hate speech through Education, Global Co-lead, UNESCO University Network on Media and Information Literacy & Intercultural Dialogue (UNITWIN-MILID), UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Alliance Committee Member on Disinformation and Fake news and UNESCO National Coordinator for Media and Information Literacy’s Curriculum intervention in Nigerian Universities.

Dr. Suraj is a Management Expert and a Strategic Communication Consultant. He is a Certified Management Consultant by Institute of Management Consultants (IMC) and Certified Design Thinking Expert. Dr Olunifesi is an accredited Tutor of Enterprise Systems (ES) Fundamentals with SAP by Enterprise Systems Education for Africa (ESEFA) and SAP University Alliances. He holds a Certificate of Achievement of EC-Council on fundamentals of Cybersecurity and Code for Africa Certificate on fact checking by African Fact Checker. His research networks and consultancies span across many continents.

He has 19 years of professional experience encompassing University Teaching, Researching, Advisory and Consulting. He started his academic career after a stint in the telecom industry after rising to the position of the Head, Technical & Presales, Training. Dr. Olunifesi is a member of Global Research Network on Knowledge Management and Intellectual Capital comprising world-renowned Scholars from more than 40 countries in highly rated global business Universities around the world, a member of Centre for Freedom and Expression Research Network on Safety of Journalists (UK), Joint Expert Trauma Research Educational Group (JETREG , UK), Research Adjunct to Centre for Research and Innovation Centre, Research Fellow, Institute of Nigeria-China Development Studies and Senior Research Fellow, Humbolt Center for Digital Humanities in University of Lagos.

He is a Resource Consultant to many National and International organizations including Asia-Pacific Centre of Educational for International Understanding (APCEIU), Deutshe Welles Akademia (DW), African Free Press (AFP), UNESCO, Nigerian Military, Civil Organizations. He holds Master (M.Inf.Sc) and Doctorate (PhD) Degrees in Data and Information Sciences and a Postgraduate (PGD) Degree in Mass Communication.

He serves as a doctoral external examiner to many African and European Universities. He is an author of many published books and has a lot of other peer-reviewed journals articles to his credit.

Professor Tunde Ope-Davies

Professor Tunde Ope-Davies (Opeibi) earned his academic degrees (Bachelor, Master and Doctorate) from the University of Lagos, Lagos. He has been Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State. Prof Ope-Davies has also earned visiting positions at the University of Westminster, London, University of Technology, Chemnitz, Germany and University of Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. 

He is the founder and director of the Centre for Digital Humanities University of Lagos.
Professor Ope-Davies has won a number of prestigious and competitive academic honours.

 These include the Commonwealth Professional Fellowship as visiting scholar at the Centre for Democracy, University of Westminster, London; the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Georg Forster Fellowship for Experienced Researchers, at Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany; DAAD Scholarship for University of Leipzig’s summer programme in Digital Humanities, and the Visiting Research Fellowship of the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH-SPSS), University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

 
A widely travelled scholar, he has participated and presented research and professional papers in international conferences and workshops in different parts of the world.


As the pioneer professor of Digital Humanities in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, he is the convener of the Lagos Summer School in Digital Humanities (LSSDH).
His hobbies include sports, travelling, mentoring young people, and listening to music, and life coaching.
